Welcome to the webpage for Project No. 0171-0522, Crosswalk Upgrades in Central Connecticut (Bristol, Cheshire, Ellington, Enfield, Hartford, Meriden, Middletown, New Britain, Newington, South Windsor, Tolland, Wethersfield, and Windsor)
A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions.
The project involves installing or upgrading Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) assemblies, sidewalk landing areas, ramps, and signage, including any necessary excavation work. These features will meet accessibility and traffic control requirements and will enhance safety at pedestrian crossings. Learn more about RRFB here.
Right-of-way impacts should be limited; however, construction and/or permanent easements may be needed for RRFB appurtenances and/or sidewalk ramps.
Construction is expected to start spring 2028 depending on funding, right-of-way acquisition, and permits. The estimated cost is $2 million with 90% federal funds and 10% state funds.
