The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a crossover to divert traffic at the Heroes Tunnel in New Haven will be in place to begin work on upgrading the existing tunnel lighting starting on January 3, 2024.
The current lighting system requires repair and replacement. CTDOT is upgrading the lighting system to provide additional visibility for the motorists while traveling on Route 15.
CTDOT Project No. 0092-0686 was awarded to New England Road, Inc. at a cost of $2,497,145.00 on December 6, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed in May of 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3, New Haven.
LANE CLOSURE INFO:
For the lighting replacement work in the northbound direction, traffic will be diverted utilizing a crossover onto the highspeed lane of the southbound tunnel.
For the lighting replacement work in the southbound direction, traffic will be diverted utilizing a crossover onto the highspeed lane of the northbound tunnel.
Work will take place between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.; Monday-Thursday. Anticipated completion time is estimated at 25 days, weather permitting.
