DAS provides a progress update to Pump House repair effort
(September 2, 2021) The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is providing an update on the situation at the pump house located at 474 Capitol Avenue in Hartford.
Our mechanical contractors secured a large pump and connected the chilled water pipes, bypassing the compromised system, at the pump house. Last night the temporary chilled water pump was tested and the chilled water has started flowing through these pipes. It will take at least several hours for the proper temperature of chilled water to make its way through the system and eventually cool the buildings. In addition, boilers have been delivered and installed at the Park Place Towers and the hot water has been restored at these towers for domestic use.
The need for further repairs continues to be assessed, and restoration of additional services is ongoing.
In addition:
- Yesterday, staff secured the pump house against the impending weather.
- Buildings remain safe to use with the understanding that they may be warm inside.
- DAS continues to work to secure on-site chillers and boilers for installation at the affected buildings, as needed.
- More information will be released when project milestones are achieved.
