Inter and Intrastate use of IRP Apportioned Plates on Bus type vehicles

 

July 2026: The Connecticut Motor Vehicle Central Office Supervisor II clarified that bus type vehicles using interstate registrations also known as IRP Apportioned Plates, regardless of the home state, have the authority to travel for commerce anywhere in the country. In addition, as long as the operator has the appropriate livery permit or motor bus permit from Connecticut DOT Regulatory and Compliance unit, the bus type vehicles can also provide intrastate bus service in Connecticut while using the IRP Apportioned Plate of their home state.
