Project 0174-0471 Webpage

Welcome to the webpage for State Project 0174-0471, Traffic Control Signal Replacements in Northwest Connecticut in Avon, Danbury, East Granby, Farmington, Kent, Middlebury, Simsbury, and Southbury.

A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

This meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments and ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.

The purpose of this project is to replace aging and outdated traffic signal infrastructure with new equipment to fit current standards. Full and partial replacement locations are selected annually throughout the state based on an assessment of existing conditions at state-owned traffic signals.

Full replacements may include span poles, mast arms, pedestals, signal heads, span wires, conduits, vehicle detection equipment, and/or signing and pavement markings. Both full and partial replacements may include modifications to pedestrian control features such as pedestrian countdown heads, push buttons, sidewalk ramps, and sidewalk extensions.

Right-of-way impacts are expected to be minimal around new signal equipment and sidewalks at some project intersections.

Construction is expected to start spring 2027. The estimated cost is $14 million with 100% state funds.
