Project 0172-0535 Webpage

Welcome to the webpage for State Project 0172-0535 Traffic Control Signal Replacements across Eastern Connecticut in Chaplin, Griswold, Ledyard, New London, Norwich, Old Saybrook, and Plainfield.

A virtual public informational meeting for the project was held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

This meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.

The purpose of this project is to replace aging and outdated traffic signal infrastructure with new equipment to current standards. Replacement and partial upgrade locations are selected annually throughout the state based on an assessment of existing conditions at state-owned traffic signals.

Full replacements may include installation of span poles, mast arms, pedestals, signal heads, span wires, conduits, vehicle detection equipment, and/or signing and pavement markings. Modifications to pedestrian control features will also be incorporated at full replacement locations. These include items such as pedestrian countdown heads, push buttons, sidewalk ramps, and sidewalk extensions.

Right-of-way impacts are expected to be minimal around new signal equipment and sidewalks at some project intersections.

Construction is expected to begin spring 2027. The estimated cost is $10 million, with 100% state funds.

The proposed project plans can found below:
