Project 0159-0195 Webpage

Welcome to the webpage for Project 0159-0195, Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00448 Carrying Route 5 and 15 Southbound over Route 314 in Wethersfield

A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.

This meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project.  This meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.

The purpose of this project is to address the deficiencies identified in the CTDOT Bridge Inspection Report affecting Bridge No. 00448—improving the condition, extending the service life of the bridge, and providing safe travel conditions for all facility users.

Specific work to be performed as part of this project include:

  • Repair steel frame and metallize all steel components.
  • Repair existing substructure deterioration.
  • Clean, repair and coat bearings with a durable system that will prevent exposure to deicing chemicals.
  • Replace all deck joints to extend their service life and protect the components below.
  • Construct approximately 1000 feet of multi-use path from Nott Street to the Bus stop north of Bridge No. 00448.

Right-of-way impacts will be minimal, some easements may be required for the construction of the bus facilities and multi-use trail.

Construction is expected to start fall 2026, depending on funding, right-of-way acquisition, and permits. The estimated cost is $6.4 million with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
