The Reconfiguration of the Route 17 On-ramp to Route 9 Northbound Project Updates (September 6, 2024)
The project team has been steadily making progress on the Middletown Reconfiguration of Route 17 to Route 9NB Project. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve Middletown’s transportation network.Here is an overview of completed, current, and upcoming tasks.
Project Updates:
Main Street Extension and Route 17 Interchange Improvements
- The realignment of the 17 SB on-ramp with the Route 17 SB off-ramp at Main Street Extension on and off ramp is complete.
- The replacement of the existing traffic signal will create a more typical signalized intersection configuration.
DeKoven Ramp
- The DeKoven off-ramp remains closed to allow for Route 9 SB work.
- The Team continues to work on the retaining walls on the west side of Route 9 to reduce potential impacts to wetlands and Harbor Park.
The superstructure of the Route 9 bridge over Union Street (Bridge No. 00638) is being replaced and widened. This work is to accommodate the acceleration lane along Route 9 NB and to ensure proper bridge maintenance.
