Project 0014-0189 Webpage
Welcome to the webpage for Project 0014-0189, Computerized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) Replacement US Route 1 (West Main Street), in the Towns of Branford and East Haven.
A Virtual Public Information Meeting (VPIM) was held for the project on August 13, 2024. The recording of that event can be accessed at the CTDOT Virtual Public Information Meeting Video Library.
This state project limits on US Route 1 are from Route 100 (Main Street) in East Haven to Beaver Road in Branford. This project will provide full replacement of the traffic signal equipment and new fiber optic interconnect at five intersections within the US Route 1 corridor. The purpose of the project is to allow Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) to continue the deployment and use of advanced traffic signal technology to monitor and reduce travel times, upgraded traffic signal detection, using non-intrusive sensors to provide additional detection and visual capabilities.
There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements. The impacts are minimal around existing signal equipment and sidewalks at most project intersections.
Construction is anticipated to begin Spring 2026 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $6,190,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
