Welcome to the webpage for Project 0007-0266, Replacement of Bridge No. 06955, Glen Street over Mattabesset River, in the Town of Berlin.
The purpose of the project is to replace Bridge No. 06955, which carries Glen Street over Mattabesset River. The proposed structure will be comprised of twin precast concrete box culverts, flared wingwalls, and MASH standard open bridge rail system. The proposed structure will provide a 40’ of hydraulic opening and eliminate overtopping during 100-year design storm event and improve backwater conditions. The roadway width will be increased to 34’ providing for a 24’ travel way and a 5’ (minimum) dedicated pedestrian and bicycle pathway on the southbound lane of Glen Street. The new bridge would eliminate the need for weight restrictions. Approximately 450’ of roadway reconstruction is proposed including and roadway drainage improvements.
There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements, requiring temporary construction easements (4 properties), drainage easements (2 properties), and permanent slope easements (3 properties).
Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2026 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $3.51 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent Federal funds and 20 percent State funds.
