  • Each year there are prodigious increases in available knowledge in the field of transportation. Its magnitude is such that operating Offices and Divisions within the Department toil to keep abreast of the latest developments.
  • It is the mission of the Division of Research to be aware of new developments, to bring pertinent improvements to the attention of the proper Departmental personnel, and to investigate specific problem areas and offer appropriate solutions. 
  • In addition, Research personnel have an operational role in conducting required data- and image-collection activities that describe the condition of the Connecticut transportation system. 
  • Finally, Research personnel enlist the aid of institutions of higher learning, research organizations, other State Agencies, etc., to seek solutions to major problems. 
Policy on Transportation Research
  • The Department shall conduct and support research such that new and innovative technology is employed.
  • Research in this Department is encouraged on all levels when it is in the best interests of the Department.
  • The Director of Research and Materials shall coordinate and administer this Department's research activities.
Policy on Transportation Research Publications
  • Technical information emanating from the Connecticut Department of Transportation shall be distributed to affected and interested personnel. 
  • All technical reports developed by the Department shall be submitted to the National Technical Information Service to facilitate an organized flow of research and technical information for the benefit of all concerned with transportation research, planning and technology.
