Public Invited to Informational Meeting Regarding the Rehabilitation of Bridge Carrying Route 202 over Shepaug River in Washington

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00906 carrying U.S. Route 202 over the Shepaug River in Washington on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 7:00 pm.

The virtual public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments and ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/DOTWashington150-137.

“This project will address the bridge’s deficiencies to ensure the major bridge components are improved for motorist safety and remain in a state of good repair,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Francisco Fadul. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

The project will need to minimize traffic interruptions on U.S. Route 202, address the concrete deck deterioration, install MASH compliant bridge rail, address condition of bridge bearings and deterioration of structural steel, and repair existing substructure deteriorations.

Maintenance and traffic flow during construction will include two stages of work where alternating one-way traffic will facilitate vehicles over the bridge, controlled with temporary traffic signals.

Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 based on the availability of funding and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $6.76 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
