The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that exit numbering will be revised on Route 9 both Northbound and Southbound from Old Saybrook to Farmington beginning on January 23, 2023, weather permitting.

These projects consist of the exit renumbering and replacement of highway signs along the Route 9 corridor that have reached or exceeded their useful life. The exits are being renumbered to mileage-based numbering to conform to Federal standards and is part of a multi-year effort on all of the State’s highways.  Motorists can expect to see both old and new exit numbers displayed throughout the transition for a few days while work progresses. To expedite the transition this work will be performed by two state contractors simultaneously. Variable message signs will be advising motorists in the area for the week prior to work. The work is anticipated to be completed within three weeks.

DOT Project No. 0007-0189 was awarded to The Quaker Corporation at a cost of $16,357,495.05 on October 25, 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in April of 2023.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.

DOT Project No. 0172-0473 was awarded to Ducci Electrical Contractors at a cost of $5,638,000.00 on October 19, 2020 and is scheduled to be completed in the March of 2023.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

There will be temporary lane and shoulder closures on Route 9 northbound and southbound progressing through the project.  Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zones.  Work for the project is scheduled from 6:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M.

DETOUR INFO

There will be no detours associated with this work.

The above chart was updated February 16, 2023 due to an error with some of the previously listed exit numbers.
