Mill and Overlay Resurfacing on I-84 Eastbound between Exit 68 to Exit 71 and I-84 Westbound between Exit 71 and Exit 67 (including ramps) in Vernon, Tolland, and Willington

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing temporary ramp detours associated with the milling and paving on I-84 Eastbound between Exit 68 to Exit 71 and I-84 Westbound between Exit 71 to Exit 67 (including ramps) to begin on Sunday, September 11, 2022.

This project consists of milling and overlaying portions of I-84 and associated bridges and ramps in the Towns of Vernon, Tolland, and Willington.  (Eastbound between Exit 68 to Exit 71 and Westbound between Exit 71 and Exit 67) This project also involves reconstruction of deck ends, bridge joint work, membrane, and intersection improvements at Int. 142-204 (Tolland).

DOT Project No. 0146-0204 was awarded to Empire Paving Inc. at a cost of $22,405,696.55 on August 2, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed August 18, 2023.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.

 

LANE CLOSURE INFO

 

In addition to lane closures previously posted, starting September 11, 2022 and continuing through the fall with an anticipated winter shutdown around November 30, 2022, there will be various ramp closures with associated detours on I-84 Eastbound between Exit 68 to Exit 71 and I-84 Westbound between Exit 71 and Exit 67, Sunday through Friday from 8:00PM to 6:00AM.

 

DETOUR INFO

 

Expect Ramps to be periodically closed with associated detours starting Sunday, September 11, 2022 between the hours of 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Anticipated completion is November 30, 2022. The following detours may be implemented:

 

ON RAMPS:

I-84 EB Exit 69 On Ramp will be detoured on Rt. 74 to I-84 WB to Exit 68 WB back to I-84 EB.

I-84 WB Exit 68 On Ramp will be detoured on Rt. 195 to I-84 EB to Exit 69 to Rt. 74 to I-84 WB.

I-84 WB Exit 69 On Ramp will be detoured on Rt. 74 to I-84 EB to Exit 70 to Rt. 32 to I-84 WB.

I-84 WB Exit 70 On Ramp will be detoured on Rt. 32 to I-84 EB to Exit 71 to Rt. 320 to I-84 WB.

 

OFF RAMPS:

I-84 EB Exit 69 Off Ramp will be detoured to Exit 70 Rt. 32 back to I-84 WB to Exit 69.

I-84 EB Exit 70 Off Ramp will be detoured to Exit 71 Rt. 320 and back to I-84 WB to Exit 70.

I-84 WB Exit 68 Off Ramp will be detoured to Exit 67 Rt. 31 and back to I-84 EB to Exit 68.

I-84 WB Exit 69 Off Ramp will be detoured to Exit 68 Rt. 195 and back to I-84 EB to Exit 69.

 

REST AREAS:
I-84 EB Rest Area will be closed during paving operations.  Traffic will be detoured to Exit 71 for Rt. 32 and back to I-84 Westbound Rest Area.

I-84 WB Rest Area will be closed during paving operations.  Traffic will be detoured to Exit 69 for Rt. 74 and back to I-84 Eastbound Rest Area.
