Overhead Sign Support Installation and Removals in Various Towns Across Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to replace signs and sign supports at various locations statewide based on structural deterioration, damage by vehicle strike, or at locations that do not conform to Federal standards.

Additionally, on I-91 southbound approaching the I-95 interchange, the project will replace the signs, associated sign supports, and pavement markings to modify the exit to I-95 northbound into an option lane.

The following locations are included:

New Haven: Southbound signing and pavement markings for the I-95 Interchange

Replacement of large signs and sign supports.

Hartford: Southbound ¾ Mile before Exit 31 (State Street)

Windsor: Northbound 1 Mile & ½ Mile before Exit 39&41 (Kennedy Rd./ Center Street)

Enfield: Southbound at Exit 47E (Rte. 190 East)

Replacement of large signs and sign supports.

Interstate 95

Norwalk: Northbound ½ Mile before Exit 16 (East Norwalk)

West Haven: Northbound at Exit 42 (Saw Mill Rd.) & ½ Mile before Exit 43 (Campbell Ave.)

Clinton: Southbound 1 Mile before Exit 63 (Rte. 81)

Old Saybrook: Southbound at Exit 69 (Rte. 9)

Old Lyme: Northbound at Exit 71 (Four Mile River Rd.)

New London: Southbound at Exit 83 (Rte. 1)

Replacement of large signs and sign supports.

Interstate 84

Waterbury: Eastbound ½ Mile before Exit 25 (Harpers Ferry Road / Reidville Drive)

Cheshire: Eastbound 1 Mile before Exit 27 (I-691 East)

Removal and replacement of large signs.

Interstate 395

Plainfield: Northbound at Exit 35 (TO Rte. 6 East)

Killingly: Southbound at Exit 37B (Rte. 6 West)

Replacement of large signs and sign supports.

Route 7

Norwalk: Northbound on the Exit 1 Off-Ramp

Norwalk: Southbound RR Station Sign

Replacement of large signs and sign supports.

Route 15

Norwalk: Northbound at Exit 39B (Rte. 7 Northbound)

Replacement of large signs and sign supports.

Route 69

Waterbury: Northbound approaching East Main Street

Removal of sign support.

Route 349

Groton: Northbound approaching Brandegee Avenue

Removal of sign support and signs.

The new signs and sign supports will be installed in accordance with the latest Federal and State standards and guidelines. The type of signs that will be replaced are large overhead and side mounted guide signs.

It is CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. At this time, it is not anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will be necessary.

The design plans for the project are expected to be completed in the summer of 2023 with construction commencing in 2024.
