2/18/2022

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that construction work associated with the Advance Utility Project in East Norwalk will close East Avenue underneath the railroad bridge, between Fort Point Street and Winfield Street, beginning 8p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022. This closure will remain in effect through 6a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022.

The Advance Utilities Project, No. 0301-0515, consists of undergrounding utilities between Winfield Street and Olmstead Place on East Avenue in East Norwalk. Utilities will be upgraded and, if necessary, replaced and relocated to accommodate further infrastructure improvements with new electrical, cable TV, fiber trunk line wires in East Norwalk, lowered telephone conduits under the East Avenue bridge, a new sewer pipe and water main under the East Avenue bridge, and will replace a City communication fiber on a new route, providing improved redundancy.

Construction commenced in the summer of 2021 along East Avenue. The approximate construction cost is $15 million with a 2.5-year construction schedule and is administered by the Office of Construction – District 5, New Haven.

CLOSURE INFORMATION

East Avenue will be closed in both directions under the East Avenue railroad bridge between Fort Point Street and Winfield Street starting Friday, March 4, 2022, at 8 p.m. through Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 6 a.m. The closure is required to perform construction operations under the bridge safely. All local and business and train station access will be maintained.

DETOUR INFORMATION

Motorists should follow posted signs directing traffic to the detour route utilizing Fort Point Street to Van Zant Street. Please see the attached detour map and link to a video.
