The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that pavement repairs will be performed on Route 2 east and westbound lanes in the work zones near Exit 23 in Colchester. This work is scheduled to start on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. This work is related to project 0028-0211 which consists of pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound Route 2 roadway, drainage modifications, safety improvements to upgrade guiderail to current standards, and rehabilitation and improvements to the various bridges within the project limits.
CTDOT Project No. 0028-0211 was awarded to American Roma JV at a cost of $43,699,900.00 on January 6, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2026. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
There will be daytime closures of the right and left lanes in both directions as needed on Route 2 starting Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Traffic control signing patterns and State Police will guide motorists through the work zone.
During this time there will be short traffic slowdowns on Route 2 westbound in the area of the Exit 23 entrance ramp from Middletown Avenue where it is currently reduced to a single lane.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
