Wrong Way Driver Installation Route 8 Southbound in Naugatuck and Ansonia

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that Wrong Way Driver Installations of Counter Measure Systems will be performed on Route 8 southbound at Exit 25A in Naugatuck and at Exit 13A in Ansonia starting on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. This project is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The project 0170-3638 consists of installation of the wrong way driver system on Route 8 southbound.

The Wrong Way Detection System uses video cameras to detect vehicles that are traveling in the wrong direction. If a vehicle is detected, wrong way signs outlined with multiple sets of red lights are activated and begin flashing to alert the driver they are traveling in the wrong direction. Additionally, the system alerts the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police troop barracks in real-time, allowing staff to monitor the activities of the wrong way driver on the ramp.

This project is being performed by State Forces.
