The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that an Emergency Declaration has been declared for Bridge No. 00571, Commodore Hull Bridge which carries Route 8 over the Housatonic River in Shelton and Derby on May 30, 2025.
As part of the Emergency Declaration Project, the Exit 12A Route 8 southbound off-ramp will be closed starting on June 9, 2025 until further notice. This exit closure will allow the contractor to work in right lane while maintaining two lanes of traffic on Route 8 southbound. A bridge load restriction of 32 tons for all vehicles remains in effect until further notice.

Route 8 Southbound Detour
Vehicles shall take the Exit 11 off-ramp. Take a right at end of ramp onto SR 714 (Bridgeport Avenue). Continue north on Bridgeport Avenue which turns into Center Street. Continue on Center Street to the intersection at Route 110 (Howe Avenue). Turn right onto Howe Avenue and then continue on Howe Avenue toward the Route 8 underpass near Kneen Street.
