The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing wrong way detection installations on I-91 at northbound Exit 24 in Rocky Hill, I-84 at eastbound Exit 16 in Southbury and westbound Exit 2 in Plainville beginning on July 30, 2024.
Project 170-3608 involves the installation of wrong way detection systems to reduce wrong way crashes on high-risk freeway exit ramps.
CTDOT Project No. 170-3608 was awarded to Ferguson Electric Co., Inc. at a cost of $1,827,462.00 on October 12, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed August 4, 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.

I-91 at Northbound Exit 24 in Rocky Hill
I-91 northbound Exit 24 off-ramp in Rocky Hill will be closed to traffic beginning on July 30, 2024. Northbound traffic will be advised to get off at Exit 26 and take I-91 southbound to Exit 24 from 7:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
I-84 at Eastbound Exit 16 in Southbury
I-84 eastbound Exit 16 off-ramp in Southbury will be closed to traffic beginning on July 30, 2024. Eastbound traffic will be advised to get off at Exit 17 and take I-84 westbound to Exit 16 from 7:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
Route 72 Westbound Exit 2
Route 72 westbound Exit 2 off-ramp in Plainville will be closed to traffic beginning on July 30, 2024. Westbound traffic will be advised to get off at Exit 5, left on Rte 177 (North Washington Street) and left on Route 372 (West Main Street) which takes them back to Exit 2 from 7:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
