Wrong Way Detection Installations: New Britain, East Hartford, West Hartford, and Windsor

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing wrong way detection installation projects in various locations in District 1.

The project consists of upgrades at locations in Windsor, West Hartford, East Hartford, and New Britain:

  • Windsor starting on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 | 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

  • I-91 Northbound Exit 38

  • East Hartford starting on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 | 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

  • Route 2 Eastbound Exit 3 (Pickens Dr.) 

  • New Britain starting on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 | 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

  • Route 9 Northbound Exit 35 (Ellis St.)

  • West Hartford starting on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 | 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

  • I-84 Westbound Exit 40

LANE CLOSURE INFO/DETOUR INFO

Route 9 Northbound Exit 35 (Ellis St.)

Motorists can expect exit ramp closures on Route 9 northbound exit 35 in New Britain. The regular work schedule for this project is from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024. 

Detour: Take Exit 36, at top of ramp turn right on Chestnut St., turn left back onto Route 9.

 

Route 2 Eastbound Exit 3 (Pickens Dr.)

Motorists can expect exit ramp closures on Route 2 Exit 3 in East Hartford. The regular work schedule for this project is from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024. 

Detour: Take Exit 5A, turn left onto Route 2 westbound to Exit 3.  

 

I-84 Westbound Exit 40

Motorists can expect exit ramp closures on I-84 westbound Exit 40 in West Hartford. The regular work schedule for this project is from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024. 

Detour: Take Exit 41, turn right off the exit, proceed to four-way stop. Turn right onto Route 71 and proceed back to I-84.  

 

I-91 Northbound Exit 38

Motorists can expect exit ramp closures on I-91 north Exit 38 in Windsor. The regular work schedule for this project is from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024. 

Detour: Take Exit 42, turn left onto Route 159. Turn left onto I-91 southbound and proceed to Exit 38.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
