Horizontal Curve Sign Installations on I-395 and Route 6 in Killingly

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announcing the replacement of curve warning signs, chevrons, and retro-reflective strips on the Exit 37A off-ramp from I-395 southbound to Route 6 eastbound, the on-ramp from Route 6 eastbound to I-395 northbound and the Exit 37 off-ramp from I-395 northbound to Route 6 westbound in Killingly starting Sunday, August 4, 2024. This project consists of replacing curve warning signs, chevrons, and retro-reflective strips material on new breakaway metal signposts. These upgrades will enhance visibility and conspicuity of the signs and curves to motorists and, are a proven safety countermeasure to minimize roadway departure crashes.

 

CLOSURE/ DETOUR INFO

All of the detours close ramps to allow for the installation of Chevron signs around sharp horizontal curves.


Exit 37A Ramp from I-395 Southbound to Route 6 Eastbound
Motorists can expect a temporary off-ramp closure to occur at Exit 37A ramp from I-395 southbound to Route 6 eastbound in Killingly, starting Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. A detour will be in place at this location. Variable message boards will be set up approximately one (1) week prior to the work beginning. One (1) state trooper, crash attenuator vehicles and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. Traffic will be detoured to Interstate 396 southbound Exit 38, west on Westcott Road, south on Route 12, and east on Route 6.

 

Route 6 Eastbound to I-395 Northbound

Motorists can expect a temporary ramp closure to occur at on-ramp from Route 6 eastbound to I-395 northbound in Killingly, starting Monday, August 5, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. A detour will be in place at this location. Variable message boards will be set up approximately one (1) week prior to the work beginning. One (1) state trooper, crash attenuator vehicles and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. Traffic will be detoured to north on Route 12, east on Wescott Road and then to Interstate 395 northbound.

 

Exit 37 Ramp from I-395 Northbound to Route 6 Westbound

Motorists can expect a temporary ramp closure to occur at Exit 37 ramp from I-395 northbound to Route 6 westbound in Killingly, starting Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. A detour will be in place at this location. Variable message boards will be set up approximately one (1) week prior to the work beginning. One (1) state trooper, crash attenuator vehicles and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. The nighttime work schedule for this project will be from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Traffic will be detoured to Interstate 395 northbound to Exit 38, north on Knox Avenue, west on Wescott Road, south on Route 12 then west on Route 6.
