Pre-Approved Outside Credit Classes for Building and Fire Officials
The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) pre-approves many continuing education trainings, delivered both live and online. Refer to the list to find a topic and date that works for you.

Building Code Enforcement Officials and Fire Officials are required to earn continuing education credits to maintain their license or certification. The number of credits needed is based on the credential. All training cycles are three-years in length.

Earn Continuing Education Credits from Outside Training Providers as a Building or Fire Official
If you take a live or online class from a provider other than the Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM), it may count toward your three-year licensure and certification requirements.

How to become a Licensed Building Code Enforcement Official
There are two routes to becoming a licensed building code enforcement official within the State of Connecticut – training and testing. To be admitted to either the Pre-Licensure Training Program or the credentialing examination for a specific license, you must first meet the statutory and regulatory requirements established for that license; there are nine subcategories of building code enforcement official.

Joint Meetings of the Building Code and Fire Marshal Training Councils
The Building Code Training Council and the Fire Marshal Training Council periodically meet to discuss training issue that are common to both Building Code Enforcement Officials and Fire Officials.

List of Fire Marshals by Jurisdiction
The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) maintains a list of Fire Marshals currently appointed to each jurisdiction. The list is in alphabetical order by the name of the municipality.

Code Training and Education Fund Board of Control
The Code Training and Education Board of Control approves the fiscal year budget of the Office of Education and Data Management OEDM), which carries out the credentialing functions of the Office of the State Building Inspector and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Code Training and Education Fees Assessed on Municipal Building Permits
The legislature established a special fund that provides training specific to the State Building and Fire Codes. This fund is called the Code Education Fund, and is paid for by assessments on the construction value of local building permits.
