1. What do you do?
As a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, I oversee the day-to-day operations of the DAS New Haven Fleet Garage. We provide leased vehicles, loaner and rental vehicles, vehicle repairs and other needed vehicle services to all state agencies.
2. Why do you work for the State of Connecticut?
I have been a civil servant since I was a child. Since being a kid involved with Boy Scouts becoming an Eagle Scout and helping my community by volunteering as a fire fighter and being involved with other civic organizations. I was fortunate to be hired by the Department of Transportation as a mechanic when I was only 19. I have been able to advance in my career over the past 17 years eventually transferring to DAS Fleet which has allowed me to meet and assist many great people throughout all State agencies helping them provide the best services to the citizens of Connecticut.
3. What do you love about your job so far?
I love the fact that I can be paid to do what I love. I get to associate and assist workers from all agencies while following the career that I love in the automotive field. I enjoy helping all our fleet customers by assisting them with their vehicle needs. To provide safe reliable vehicles to other State workers so that they can perform their services to the citizens of Connecticut is very rewarding.
4. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?
I find myself extremely busy with activities and volunteer work. I enjoy working on my antique tractors and equipment, restoring a classic Peterbilt truck. Helping friends, neighbors and family fixing just about anything mechanical. I put in time with the Volunteer Fire House that I have been a part of for 18 years aiding in times of emergency to the citizens of Derby Connecticut and the surrounding communities that we help. I like to exercise, enjoy the outdoors, ski trips, and distance swimming - I’m also a certified Scuba Diver and I volunteer in a cemetery assisting in grounds keeping.
5. Where is your favorite place that you have traveled?
I don’t travel often but some of my favorite places that I have been include a family tip to Colorado, a vacation to Las Vegas with friends and various camping trips throughout New England.
6. What would you tell someone who is interested in working for the state?
The best part about employment at the State of Connecticut is that there is a job to suit everybody. Whether you’re a social worker, scientist, doctor, police officer, trades worker, teacher or practically anything else there is a job that can suit them. There is always room to advance in your career or change career paths while working at the State of Connecticut. You can do a job that you love while providing needed services for our fellow citizens of this great state.
7. Where is your favorite place in Connecticut?
I personally love the whole state. The greatest part about Connecticut is that with just a short drive you can explore some great beaches, lakes, parks, mountains, scenic rural roads, local farms along with great food, culture and meet many great people.
8. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be, and why?
If I could choose any superpower, it would be the ability to time travel. I am an avid history buff and would find it really cool to travel back in time to experience historic events and the colonial way of life firsthand.
9. Who inspires you and why?
I find Benjamin Franklin to be most inspiring. He was a founding father of the United States, signer of the Declaration of Independence, Inventor, Scientist, the first Postmaster general and a volunteer fire fighter who founded Americas First Fire Department. He was a true leader and civil servant.
10. Tell us your favorite fun fact.
I swim about 7-10 miles per week to work out. I find that swimming is a way to take my mind off the distractions in life while staying healthy.
