Route 72 Relocation

Town of Bristol

Scope of work

Scope of Work

The relocated Route 72 in Bristol and Plainville involves the construction of a four lane arterial highway with appropriate turning lanes from the vicinity of the present terminus of the existing Route 72 expressway at Forestville Ave. (Route 372) to the vicinity of Middle St. (approximately 2.4 miles).  A raised median treatment to separate traffic from Route 372 to Pine and Todd St.  The project also provides over 2 miles of additional state and local roadway improvements.

The contractor will be continuing with the construction of the additional retaining wall along the railroad tracks adjacent to Route 72 and the retaining wall at the south west corner of Mountain Road and Middle Street during this winter.

In the spring of 2011 the contractor will begin work to complete the westerly end of the project which will consist of milling and reconstructing Middle Street from Lake Avenue to First St., Riverside Avenue from Downs Street to Middle St., the reconstruction of the Broad St. and King St. intersection, and the opening of a new section of Route 72 between Pine Street and Riverside Avenue, which includes a bridge over the Pequabuck River. This work will also require the installation of various drainage structures and miscellaneous work. Additionally, Pine Street between Todd Street and Birch Street will be reconstructed. The Contractor expects to complete all Project work by the end of June.
