1. How do I get a traffic light or a regulatory sign (No Thru Trucks, Stop, speed limit, no parking, etc.) installed?
Contact your Local Traffic Authority (LTA) and discuss your concerns. If the LTA agrees with your request, it will be forwarded to the DOT for review. An investigation will be conducted and, if action is needed, a report will be prepared recommending approval or denial of the request. If no OSTA action is needed, a reply to the LTA will be forwarded by the investigating unit. There are many items which do not require action by the OSTA.
2. Who is responsible for slowing traffic speeds on my street?
Police enforce the posted speed limit. If you think the posted speed limit should be lowered, contact your Local Traffic Authority (LTA).
3. How can I get a pothole or broken traffic light fixed on a state road?
Potholes, drainage problems, malfunctioning traffic signals, or other maintenance issues on state roads can be reported to the Customer Care Center online, by email at DOT.CustomerCare@ct.gov, or by phone at 860-594-2560.
4. Does the OSTA ever deny an MTG approval because the residents or town object to the development?
No, OSTA can only consider traffic safety in its review. The DOT works closely with the LTA to determine any roadway improvements needed for the issuance of a certificate of operation. Concerns such as the impact on the environment or the quality of life in a town/city impacted by a large development are valid, however they do not come under the OSTA jurisdiction. These decisions must be made at the local level.
5. What if I do not agree with the OSTA report?
All OSTA decisions are made with input from the LTA. Members of the public should voice their concerns through their Local Traffic Authority (LTA).
