The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct an in-person public information meeting concerning the replacements of Bridge No. 05126 carrying White Street over Still River (State Project No. 0162-0161) and Bridge No. 05132 carrying Grantville Road over Mad River (State Project No. 0162-0162) in Winchester on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hicks Room on the 2nd floor of Winchester Town Hall at 338 Main Street in Winsted.
The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation. “These projects will replace two deteriorated scour susceptible bridges with new bridges providing a service life of 75-years“, said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Andrew Shields. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.
There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements in the form of partial permanent takes, temporary construction easements, slope easements, and the rights to grade and install erosion and sedimentation controls.
Construction for both projects is anticipated to begin spring 2027, based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for State Project No. 0162-0161 is approximately $9.7 million. The estimated construction cost for State Project No. 0162-0162 is approximately $3.9 million. These projects are anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
