The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the installation of new traffic signals on U.S. Route 5/Route 15 (Berlin Turnpike) will begin on June 17, 2023.
The project includes the replacement of the traffic signal equipment and upgrade of communication interface for CTDOT to support efficient traffic signal timing operations of the Coordinated Traffic Signal System (CTSS) along a 5.7 mile long segment the Berlin Turnpike from the Brickyard Mall Driveway in Berlin to the old CTDOT Maintenance Garage in Meriden.
CTDOT also seeks additional traffic data and visual information from these intersections in order to facilitate ease of operations and maintenance. Quick and reliable communications with these intersections is critical to their use as traffic diversion routes along the I-84 and I-91 corridors and this project will establish reliable fiber optic communications connections from the CTDOT Headquarters in Newington to the traffic signal intersections.
DOT Project No. 0007-0262 was awarded to Ferguson Electric Co., Inc. at a cost of $10,776,000.00 on May 3, 2023 and is scheduled to be completed July 14, 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.
