Merritt Parkway in Norwalk will be closed for seven (7) weeks to vehicular and pedestrian traffic to allow for rehabilitation of the structure. CTDOT is announcing that starting on June 23, 2023, the bridge carrying Comstock Hill Avenue over theMerritt Parkway in Norwalk to be closed for Rehabilitation.
Project 0102-0296 involves the implementation of various safety improvements along Route 15 from Exit 37 (Route 124/South Avenue) to Exit 40B (Main Avenue). As part of this project, major rehabilitation of the bridge carrying Comstock Hill Avenue over the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk will occur. In order to complete this work, it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from June 23, 2023 thru August 11, 2023.
DOT Project No. 0102-0296 was awarded to Yonkers Contracting Company, Inc. at a cost of $55,711,300.00 on April 13, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed October 31, 2024. This project is administered by the Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Beginning on June 23, 2023, motorist and pedestrians should expect that the Comstock Hill Avenue bridge will be closed to thru traffic. Comstock Hill Avenue north and south of the bridge will remain open to local traffic with access for residents available from the northern and southern intersections of Silvermine Avenue. Due to a posted 13’-0” vertical clearance on Silvermine Avenue at the Route 15 overpass, vehicles over 13’ in height are advised to follow the signed detour that will direct traffic around the bridge closure. The signed detour will utilize New Canaan Avenue (Route 123) and Silvermine Road (Route 106) to connect back to Comstock Hill Ave at its intersection with Silvermine Avenue. Traffic control personnel and signing will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.
The daytime schedule for this work is Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The nighttime schedule will be Monday-Friday 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and Saturdays as needed.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to these schedules may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limits and to utilize caution through this and all other construction work zones.
