The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that emergency work will be performed on the northbound side of Route 8 near the Long Hill overpass in Shelton. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 11, 2022.
The project consists of removing all loose and potentially unstable rock from adjacent slopes at this location to the limits in the emergency declaration. Work consists of:
- Installing temporary line striping and temporary concrete barrier for the lane closure
- Removing all loose and potentially unstable rock from the slope face
- Removing all vegetation at the top of the rock slope
- Replacing damaged metal beam rail
- Installing permanent concrete barrier curb as needed
DOT Project No. 0126-0180 was assigned to Guerrera Construction Company, Inc. at an estimated cost to be determined but expected to be under $300,000.00 on March 30, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by May 27, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.

A segment of the right slow vehicle lane will be closed from the entrance ramp of Exit 12 (Old Stratford Road) for the duration of this emergency work. Traffic barrels and temporary concrete barriers will close this portion of the lane on the week of April 18, 2022.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
