The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the complete bridge replacement of Bridge No. 02510, Route 82 over Strongs Brook in East Haddam will occur during a complete road closure/detour during the Summer of 2022.
The project includes full replacement of Bridge No. 02510, which currently consists of a simple span over the brook made up of traditional abutments, concrete slab, wingwalls & parapets. The new bridge will consist of a 16’ x 5.5’ precast concrete box culvert measuring approximately 54.5’ long with new concrete headwalls, end walls and wingwalls atop spread footings at the inlet and outlet.
Other details of the project include realignment of the culvert and natural streambed to improve flow through the area, and replacement of various catch basins to assist with drainage. The bridge and brook will be relocated 40 feet west of their current location to improve the angle of the brook through the culvert and allow for ample space to make necessary road safety improvements as well.
DOT Project No. 0040-0146 was awarded to Mizzy Construction, Inc. at a cost of $2,369,396.50 on March 15, 2022. Construction began on April 29, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed November 4, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2, Norwich.
