The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the nighttime closure of the off ramp on Interstate 691 westbound at Exit 6 on or around April 18. Work will continue through May 2 at various ramp locations.
The project consists of resurfacing, bridge rehabilitations, safety improvements, signing upgrades and illumination replacement. Preliminary work will include pavement coring/sampling and drainage structure inspections.
DOT Project No. 0079-0244 was awarded to Manafort Brothers, Inc. at a cost of $48,865,177.75 on December 30, 2020. Construction is scheduled to start in September 2021 and to be completed in October 2023. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 4 in Thomaston.
LANE CLOSURE and DETOUR INFO
During the week of April 11 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., the I-691 westbound Exit 6 off ramp will be closed directing traffic to take the following detours:
For the I-691 westbound Exit 6 off ramp to Lewis Avenue, vehicles will be directed to take Exit 7 to State Street Extension, then to Center Street, next to Kensington Avenue, and finally onto Lewis Avenue.
A second, optional detour is available by continuing on I-691 westbound, taking Exit 4 to West Main Street, getting on I-691 eastbound, taking Exit 5 to Chamberlin Highway, then onto Kensington Avenue, and finally onto Lewis Avenue.
