The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the opening of Bridge No. 01489 carrying Route 178 over Beaman’s Brook in Bloomfield on August 29, 2022.
Route 178 was closed from June 21, 2022 to the scheduled opening on August 29, 2022 to facilitate bridge replacement. Traffic has been detoured around the bridge through Tyler Street, Route 218 (Cottage Grove Road), and Prospect Street. Work continues on portions of the new bridge and traffic will be shifted to facilitate the remaining work.
The project consists of the Replacement of Bridge No. 01489 carrying Route 178 over Beaman's Brook in Bloomfield. The replacement structure is a single span with a clear span of 43 feet between abutment faces supported on integral abutments with piles. A temporary pedestrian bridge has been constructed to accommodate pedestrian traffic during construction.
DOT Project No. 0011-0156 was awarded to The Brunalli Construction Company at a cost of $3,243,475 on December 8, 2021 and is scheduled to be completed November 21, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.
LANE CLOSURE INFO:
Motorists can still expect lane closures and alternating one-way traffic on Route 178 (Park Avenue) Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday between 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. to facilitate remaining construction operations. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
