The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a high friction surface treatment project will begin on April 1, 2022, on Route 89 in Mansfield, Route 97 in Norwich/Sprague, Route 156 in East Lyme, Route 201 in North Stonington, Route 214 in Ledyard, Route 289 in Windham, Route 642 in Norwich, and Route 649 in Groton.
The project consists of placing a high friction surface treatment (HFST), curb to curb, over milled and reconstructed roadway surfaces. In addition, crack sealing and surface patching will be performed to repair the existing roadway prior to paving and placing the HFST.
DOT Project No. 0172-0506 was awarded to Waters Construction Company, Inc. at a cost of $2,803,644.50 on December 21, 2021. The project start date is April 1, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by September 17, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction – District 2 in Norwich.

The regular work schedule for this project is Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.
