The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the planned construction on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge in New London and Groton.
The rehabilitation project consists of strengthening the truss approach spans of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge. The work requires the closing of a right or left shoulder and adjacent lane while activities are proceeding below the deck surface on the truss sections of the bridge. This work is scheduled to begin February 28, 2022 with an anticipated completion date of June 25, 2025.
DOT Project No. 0094-0256 was awarded to Aetna Bridge Company for $50,895,103.60 on December 1, 2021 and is scheduled to be completed June 25, 2025. This project is being administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.
LANE CLOSURE INFO:
Beginning February 28, 2022, right or left shoulders and the adjacent lane on I-95 NB at the Gold Star Memorial Bridge will be closed daily, Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
On or after April 1, 2022, the left shoulder and adjacent lane will be closed continuously for the construction season or until further notice. This will reduce the Gold Star Memorial Bridge to four lanes in the Northbound direction on I-95 for extended periods of time.
The lane closures will be maintained with a combination of construction signs, traffic drums, and other traffic control devices.
Motorists are advised to use caution and maintain a safe speed when driving through work zones.
