The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public informational meeting concerning the proposed Replacement of Bridge No. 07001, Michaels Way over West Branch Saugatuck River, in Weston, Connecticut on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. The formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The project is identified as State Project No. 0157-0088.
The purpose and need for the project are to address the structural deficiencies of Bridge No. 07001, which supports Michaels Way over West Branch Saugatuck River in the Town of Weston.
The existing bridge, constructed in 1995, consists of a simple-span, six rolled steel girder superstructure with a timber deck supported by cast-in-place concrete abutments and flared stone faced wingwalls. The existing bridge has a span length of 60 feet and a curb-to-curb width of 22 feet.
The proposed replacement consists of replacing the existing structure in its entirety in the same approximate location as the existing structure. The structure type is a steel superstructure on pile supported integral abutments. The structure will have a similar skew and length as the existing bridge. On either side of the bridge, there will be 5-foot-wide sidewalks and 42-inch-tall open bridge rail. The 42-inch-tall open bridge rail will be flanked by vertical face concrete endblocks with a stone cladding or aesthetic form liners. The proposed replacement will require approximately 230 feet of full depth roadway reconstruction along Michaels Way. The existing horizontal alignment and curb-to-curb width of Michaels Way at the project site will be maintained. The vertical profile of Michaels Way will be raised approximately 6 inches to accommodate the new structure.
