The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing as part of the ongoing rehabilitation of Bridge 06026 carrying Route 156 over the Niantic River, the scheduled closure and detour of Route 156 in East Lyme and Waterford beginning on March 7, 2021, until March 19, 2021.
The scheduled closure is necessary to facilitate the replacement of various electrical and mechanical components that are required to properly operate the bridge. This work cannot be completed while maintaining vehicular traffic over the structure.
Detour Information
Beginning on March 7, 2021, Route 156 over the Niantic River will be closed and detoured until March 19, 2021. The detour route is an 8-mile loop.
- From Route 156 East, follow Route 161 North to Route 1 East to Niantic River Road South.
- From Route 156 West, follow Niantic River Road North to Route 1 West to Route 161 South.
DOT Project 44-154 was awarded The Middlesex Corporation at a cost of $13,969,969.00, and is scheduled to be completed December 17, 2021.
