The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that nighttime lane closures on I-691 eastbound and westbound in Meriden, Southington, and Cheshire will begin on or around April 5, 2021.
The lane closures are necessary to facilitate construction activities associated with resurfacing, bridge rehabilitations, safety improvements, signing upgrades and illumination replacements. Preliminary work will include pavement coring/sampling and drainage structure inspections.
Most construction activities impacting traffic will take place during night work hours; On I-691 eastbound, Monday 7:00 pm to 6:00 am, Tuesday through Friday 8:00 pm to 6:00 am, Saturday 8:00 pm to 7:00 am and Sunday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am; On Interstate I-691 westbound night work hours are Monday 7:00 pm to 6:00 am, Tuesday through Friday 8:00 pm to 6:00 am, Saturday 8:00 pm to 8:00 am and Sunday from 9:00 pm to 9:00 am.
Motorists are advised to use remain alert, drive cautiously, and to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity. Signing patterns, associated traffic devices, and Connecticut State Police will be used throughout the work zones.
DOT Project No. 0079-0244 was awarded to Manafort Brothers, Inc. at a cost of $48,865,177.75 on December 30, 2020, and is scheduled to be completed in October 2023.
