The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure and detour of South State Street over the Rippowam River in Stamford from May 3, 2021, at 7 AM, to November 30, 2021. The closure is necessary to facilitate construction activities associated with the rehabilitation of the existing bridge and roadway over the Rippowam River.
The I-95 northbound Exit 7 off-ramp will be reconfigured to allow for two left-turn lanes onto northbound Greenwich Avenue, and one right-turn lane onto southbound Greenwich Avenue.
Detour Information:
- Passenger vehicles traveling from the I-95 northbound Exit 7 off-ramp will turn left heading northbound onto Greenwich Avenue to Richmond Hill Avenue, right turn on Richmond Hill Avenue heading east to Washington Boulevard, and right turn on Washington Boulevard heading southbound to South State Street.
- Trucks traveling from I-95 northbound Exit 7 off-ramp will turn left heading northbound onto Greenwich Avenue to Tresser Boulevard (Rte. 1), right turn on Tresser Boulevard (Rte. 1) heading east to Washington Boulevard and right turn on Washington Boulevard heading southbound to South State Street.
DOT Project no. 0135-0336 was awarded to PJF Construction at a cost of $2,837,651.61 on February 4, 2021, and is scheduled to be completed April 25, 2022. The project consists of rehabilitating the existing three-span arch bridge and roadway over the Rippowam River originally built in 1847 and rehabilitated in 1958. Improvements include resetting stone masonry, bridge deck repair, repaving, and bridge rail and concrete sidewalk improvements.
