Under this temporary deviation of the Washington Bridge operation schedule, the western leaf span may remain in the closed position and the eastern leaf span will operate in accordance with 33 CFR 117.207(a) from January 4, 2022 to June 30, 2022 to facilitate the bridge rehabilitation project.
The U.S. Coast Guard will announce the temporary change to the bridge operating regulation in the Local Notice to Mariners and via Broadcast Notice to Mariners.
CTDOT shall notify the public by publishing notice of the temporary deviation in a newspaper of general circulation in the place where the bridge is located. CTDOT shall also notify the agency of transportation with jurisdiction and law enforcement with jurisdiction over the roadway in the area.
The Contractor shall maintain U.S. Route 1 bridge operations to marine traffic at all times, restricted by single leaf closures. The times when the channel is restricted by one
inoperable leaf will be limited to;
178 days of single leaf closure any time from 1/4/2022 to 6/30/2022, and
119 days of a single leaf closure any time between 7/11/2022 and 11/30/2022
These restrictions are not required to be consecutive days.
LANE CLOSURE INFO -
Motorists can expect lane closures on U.S. Route 1 during day and nighttime between Orchard Street and Riverside Drive. The allowable work hours for this project are as follows;
Monday - Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.;
Friday - Saturday between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.;
Saturday - Sunday between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.; and
Sunday - Monday between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Future notifications will be provided to detail anticipated road closures with appropriate detours to be implemented. The Contractor shall be allowed to close U.S. Route 1 and detour vehicular and pedestrian traffic for certain stages of the project.
