The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of work activity for the rehabilitation of the South State Street (Route 790) bridge over the Rippowam River in Stamford.
The project consists of rehabilitating the existing three-span arch bridge and roadway which was originally built in 1847 and rehabilitated in 1958. Improvements include resetting stone masonry, bridge deck repair, repaving, bridge railing and concrete sidewalk improvements.
DOT Project no. 0135-0336 was awarded to PJF Construction at a cost of $2,837,651.61 on February 4, 2021, and is scheduled to be completed April 25, 2022.
Intermittent closures of one lane of traffic will be permitted on SR 790 (South State St.) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Detour Information:
- Beginning May 1, 2021, South State Street will be detoured from Greenwich Avenue to Richmond Hill Avenue to Washington Boulevard for local traffic, and Greenwich Avenue to Tresser Boulevard (Rt. 1) to Washington Boulevard. A detailed press release will be issued in advance of the detour.
