Reconstruction on Route 136 in Darien
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that full depth reconstruction of Route 136 in Darien will begin on November 10, 2021. The roadway will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic during working hours Monday through Saturday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
This full depth reconstruction is to remove the existing heaved asphalt caused by Tropical Storm Ida when water overflowed Bridge No. 02660 onto Route 136 in the town of Darien. The roadway will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic for the full depth reconstruction during working hours.
The project will remove an existing portion of Route 136 approximately 230 feet starting just west of address 65 Tokeneke Road extending towards 72 Tokeneke Road. This work will also entail removing the existing asphalt and concrete road base, replacing with new subbase and asphalt back to original grade. Additional work will include guide rail, sidewalk and curb replacement.
Project No. 0035-0199 will be performed by New England Infrastructure, Inc. of Hudson, MA at an estimated cost of $630,000.00 and is scheduled to start on November 10, 2021 and completed by December 31, 2021. This project is administered by the Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.

Two-way traffic will be maintained, with 11-foot-wide travel lanes in each direction, during non-working hours. Alternating one-way traffic operations, will be allowed during working hours Monday through Saturday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
