Public Information Meeting Concerning the Rehabilitation of Bridge 05200 Carrying Salmon Kill Road over Salmon Creek in Salisbury

The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public informational meeting concerning the proposed rehabilitation of Bridge 05200 carrying Salmon Kill Road over Salmon Creek in Salisbury, on Thursday August 12, 2021. The formal presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Refer to the project webpage for more detail: https://portal.ct.gov/DOTSalisbury121-136.

The project is identified as State Project No. 0121-0136.

The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate Bridge 05200, which is structurally deficient and scour critical. The existing structure was built in 2002 and is comprised of a precast concrete deck unit superstructure supported on reinforced concrete abutments and wingwalls. The total structure length and width measure 51 feet and 29 feet, 2 inches, respectively. The bridge roadway curb-to-curb width is 26 feet 2 inches and the approach roadway width is 26 feet, providing for two lanes of vehicular traffic, one lane in each direction. The proposed rehabilitation consists of a superstructure replacement and replacement of the east abutment and wingwalls. The structure will have a 44-foot clear span with a 26-foot curb-to-curb width consisting of two 11-foot travel lanes and 2-foot shoulders.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements consisting of defined easements anticipated from two property owners located on the northeast and northwest quadrants of the structure. The defined easements were deemed necessary due to the existing northern wingwalls being constructed on private property and future maintenance of the structure.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2023 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $2.39 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80-percent federal funds and 20-percent municipal funds.

The public information meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views, comments, and questions the public and the local community may have concerning the proposed project.
