Public Information Meeting Concerning the Proposed rehabilitation of Bridge No. 01665 and Intersection Realignment of Route 100 (Main Street) at U.S. Route 1 (Saltonstall Parkway) in the Town of East Haven
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a public informational meeting concerning the proposed rehabilitation of Bridge No. 01665 and Intersection Realignment of Route 100 (Main Street) at U.S. Route 1 (Saltonstall Parkway) in the Town of East Haven on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Senior Center, 91 Taylor Avenue, East Haven, Connecticut with a snow date of Thursday, February 14, 2013.  Department personnel will be available at 6:30 p.m. to answer questions prior to a formal design presentation at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of this project is to provide safety and traffic operational improvements at the Route 100/U. S. Route 1 intersection and to rehabilitate Bridge No. 01665 which has been identified to be in poor condition.  This project was initiated based on a Department’s review of accidents on Route 100 at its intersection with U.S. Route 1, and a review of the Bridge Inspection Program, respectively.
Overhead and underground utility relocations would be required for the proposed improvements of this project.  Approximately five properties on both sides of Bridge No. 01665 would require rights of way involvement.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in fall 2014, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2015, based on the availability of funding.  Construction activities are anticipated to last approximately one year.  The estimated construction cost for the proposed replacement of Bridge No. 01665 and intersection realignment of Route 100 at U.S. Route 1 under this project is approximately $3.2 million, and it is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal and 20% state funds.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning the proposed improvements of this project.
The meeting is ADA accessible.  Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend this meeting and requiring an interpreter, must make arrangements by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 (voice only) at least five working days prior to the meeting.  Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review.  Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to discuss the project may contact Mr. Timothy M. Wilson at (860) 594-3189 or by e-mail at timothy.wilson@ct.gov.  Plans are also available for review at the East Haven Town Hall.
