Overview

The State of Connecticut, Department of Administrative Services is excited to announce that Amazon Business Services is now approved for General Letter #71 (non-contract) purchases. This new program simplifies your purchasing process and allows you to take advantage of Amazon’s wide product selection and competitive prices.

Amazon Business provides a user-friendly business platform, with easy access to millions of products, competitive pricing and fast and free shipping. State of Connecticut government agencies can take advantage of full features of Amazon Business without having to buy a separate prime membership.

Some of the benefits of using Amazon Business include:

  • Automatic tax-exempt purchasing on items sold by Amazon.com and participating 3rd party sellers.
  • Free two-day shipping on Prime-eligible  orders
  • Business pricing and quantity discounts on select items
  • Business-optimized search and browse functionality (including guided purchases to Connecticut businesses)
  • Enhanced reporting & reconciliation
  • Dedicated customer service

The goal of this (permissive) program is to provide agencies with another approved tool for obtaining quotes and making purchases on non-contract purchases, and take advantage of a central Amazon Prime membership which eliminates personal prime membership tied to government purchases and separate agency prime accounts. We can get the same benefits using this free centralized service and reduce our risk of fraud and ethics violations at the same time. Amazon Business will be launched in late August 2019.
