Welcome to the webpage for State Project 0171-0504, Traffic Control Signal Replacement in Bristol, East Hartford, New Britain, and Vernon.
A virtual public informational meeting for the project was held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
This meeting was held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting took place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.
The purpose of this project is to replace aging and outdated traffic signal infrastructure with new equipment that meet current standards. Replacement and partial upgrade locations are selected annually throughout the state and are based on an assessment of existing conditions at state-owned traffic signals.
Full replacements may include installation of span poles, mast arms, pedestals, signal heads, span wires, conduits, vehicle detection equipment, and/or signing and pavement markings. Modifications to pedestrian control features will also be incorporated at full replacement and some partial upgrade locations. These include items such as pedestrian countdown heads, push buttons, sidewalk ramps, and sidewalk extensions.
Right-of-way impacts are expected to be minimal around new signal equipment and sidewalks at some project intersections.
Construction is expected to begin spring 2027. The estimated cost is $10 million, with 100% state funds.
