Public Invited to Informational Meeting Regarding U.S. Route 1 Road Diet Project in Fairfield

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct an in-person public information meeting concerning the U.S. Route 1 Road Diet project on April 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will also be available virtually on Webex, YouTube, and local access TV.

The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/DOTFairfield0050-0224.

“This project will enhance safety, mobility, and access for all roadway users by reducing the existing four-lane roadway to three,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Jonathan Corilla. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

Within the project limits of this project, U.S. Route 1 will be restriped from a four-lane roadway to a three-lane roadway with a center two-way left turn lane. The project will be predominately implemented through resurfacing U.S. Route 1 and restriping the corridor as illustrated in the road diet conceptual pavement marking plan submitted with State Project 0170-3480. Additional improvements, such as traffic control signal adjustments and upgrades, sidewalk repairs, sidewalk ramp modifications and upgrades, curb improvements, and storm drainage structure top replacements will be incorporated into the project.

Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2025 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $1.83 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 90% federal funds and 10% state funds.
