CTDOT Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto Named Vice President of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials

Today, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) board of directors selected Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto as its 2023-2024 vice president. The board also selected Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Craig Thompson as its 2023-2024 president.

“One of my top priorities is to ensure the safety of all roadway users is reflected in every project. Safety remains a guiding principle, whether here in Connecticut or communities around the country,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto. “I thank the board of directors for their confidence and am grateful to serve as vice president. I look forward to working with Secretary Thompson and state DOTs nationwide.”

“As transportation needs continue to evolve, I am honored to serve as AASHTO's president as we navigate the future together," said Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Craig Thompson. “This is a very exciting and challenging time for transportation, but I see great opportunity for those of us in the industry to make a real impact for our communities. During my tenure, I will focus on taking advantage of the opportunities offered through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, working with any and all partners to move the needle on roadway safety, and recruiting and retaining top talent for the transportation workforce.”

“We are ecstatic to welcome incoming AASHTO President Thompson and Vice President Eucalitto as they step into important leadership roles within our organization,” said AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon. “These accomplished leaders bring a wealth of knowledge that will benefit state DOTs across the nation and help AASHTO deliver safety, mobility, and access for everyone.”

As AASHTO president, Thompson said he will prioritize three major areas of emphasis as he assumes his new role – realizing the promise of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), bolstering safety, and reinvigorating the workforce. As Vice President, Commissioner Eucalitto will be a member of the AASHTO Executive Committee, and additionally chair the AASHTO Transportation Policy Forum, a key committee that discusses and recommends legislative, regulatory, and other policy matters to the Board. He will also chair the Strategic Management Committee, which focuses on identifying and addressing issues and concerns and developing action plans.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials represents State Departments of Transportation in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. AASHTO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association catalyzing excellence in transportation.
