CTDOT Applauds NHTSA Announcement
Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto released the following statement supporting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking announcement.
“The CTDOT applauds today’s announcement on the proposed rulemaking for the future use of alcohol detection technology in all new passenger vehicles. Nearly 40% of roadway fatalities in Connecticut are caused by an impaired driver, which is the third highest percentage in the United States. These are crashes that should have and could have been prevented. We know alcohol detection technology has the potential to save lives, are strong believers in these efforts, and are currently piloting and testing these technologies in state vehicles. We thank the U.S. Department of Transportation and NHTSA for their continued leadership on roadway safety. We look forward to engaging with NHTSA through the rulemaking process.”
