Second Phase of I91 and I691 Route 15 Interchange Meriden

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that work on the second phase to improve traffic flow will be performed on I-91/I-691/ Route 15 Interchange Northbound in Meriden. This project is scheduled to occur on March 10, 2025, and be completed on November 31, 2028. The project 0079-0246 consists of addressing traffic operational and safety concerns associated with capacity, congestion, and weaving along Route 15 and I-91 in the northbound direction, as well as capacity deficiencies on the Route 15 northbound off-ramp to I-691 westbound and on the mainline of I-691 westbound.

CTDOT Project No. 0079-0246 was awarded to O&G Industries at a cost of $185,000,000 on January 29, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2028. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.


LANE/RAMP/SHOULDER CLOSURE INFO

I-91 north and southbound from Exits 15 to 18

There will be lane closures on Monday through Friday 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., along with Saturday through Sunday 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. 

I-691 west and eastbound from Exit 1B to Exit 2B

There will be lane closures on Monday through Friday 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., along with Saturday through Sunday 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. 

Route 15 north and southbound from Exit 66 to Exit 68W

There will be lane closures on Monday through Saturday 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., along with Saturday through Sunday 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. 

Paddock Avenue, East Main Street, Gravel Road, Broad Street, Miller Avenue and adjacent streets

There will be lane closures on Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.  

Highway Ramps

May be closed and traffic detoured Monday through Friday between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. 

Shoulder Closures
There will be shoulder closures on the above routes at any time. 

Intermittent Nighttime Ramp Closures

Motorist should also expect the following intermittent nighttime ramp closures between 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with respective detours.

DETOUR INFO

East Main Street on-Ramp to I-91 Northbound, Route 15 Northbound, and I-691 Westbound Off Ramp
A detour will be posted directing traffic eastly on East Main Street to Preston Avenue and to the I-691 Westbound on-Ramp.  Once motorists on I-691 Westbound and finally take Exit 1A for    I-91 Northbound or Exit 10 for Route 15 Northbound. 

Route 15 Northbound Exit 68 N-E off ramp to I-91 Northbound and Route 66 Eastbound

A detour will be posted directing traffic to take Exit 68 W onto I-691 Westbound, then take Exit 28 to Lake Street then onto I-691 Eastbound on-ramp and finally taking entering I-91 Northbound at Exit 1A.    

Route 15 Northbound Exit 67 off-ramp to East Main Street

A detour will be posted directing traffic to take Exit 68 N-E to I-91 Northbound, then take Exit 18 to Route 66 Eastbound, then take Exit 1 to Preston Avenue and finally onto East Main Street. 

I-91 Northbound Exit 16 off-ramp to East Main Street

A detour will be posted to direct the traffic to take Exit 17 to Route 15 NB, then take Exit 68 N-E to I-91 Northbound, then take Exit 18 to Route 66 Eastbound, then take Exit 1 to Preston Avenue and finally take right onto East Main Street.

Traffic control signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
